What inspired you to start Mudd Flower Co?
Mudd Flower Co. began as a quiet dream.
A way to stay creative without the ties of a traditional shop. A business that could grow gently alongside life. Something flexible, thoughtful and hands-on, where every stem, every idea and every installation could be given the time and care it deserves.
After years in fast-paced retail floristry, I wanted to slow the process down. To design with intention. To take on fewer projects, but make them bigger, better and more meaningful.
Mudd became that space.
How did your floristry journey begin?
My journey into floristry started when I was sixteen, working in a busy high street flower shop in Hertfordshire. I swept floors, conditioned flowers, ran errands and made endless cups of tea. There was no formal training, Just watching, learning and gradually being trusted to create alongside talented florists.
It was an old-school apprenticeship in the best possible way.
I learnt quickly and grew to love the rhythm of it all, the early mornings, the buckets of fresh stems, the organised chaos of busy weekends. Nearly thirty years on, I’ve worked across every corner of the industry and even ran my own shop, which taught me the realities of buying, branding, finances, social media and the resilience needed to run a small business.
All of that experience quietly shaped what would become Mudd.
How would you describe Mudd’s signature style and design philosophy in a few words?
Today, Mudd’s style is nature-led, loose and relaxed, with just a hint of refinement.
I’m constantly inspired by the way flowers grow in the wild, untamed, free-flowing and beautifully imperfect. Rather than forcing symmetry or rigid structure, I work with the natural movement of each stem, allowing shapes to unfold organically.
Seasonal blooms, textural foliage and foraged elements are at the heart of my work. Branches, seed heads, grasses and natural materials add depth and a real sense of place. Arrangements are designed to feel gathered rather than manufactured; abundant, soft and alive.
Tell us about sustainability and how you incorporate it into your designs.
Sustainability is woven into every decision I make.
Where possible, flowers are seasonal and locally sourced. I design without floral foam, instead using reusable or biodegradable mechanics like chicken wire, moss and twigs. Vessels are repurposed, materials are compostable, and any leftovers are reused, dried or returned to the earth.
It’s a simple philosophy: less, but better.
Create thoughtfully. Waste less. Let nature lead.
Because beautiful flowers shouldn’t come at a cost to the environment that inspires them.
What types of projects excite you at the moment/ what are you most looking forward to?
Right now, I’m most excited by projects that allow for collaboration and creativity, thoughtfully styled weddings, intimate celebrations and editorial-style shoots where there’s freedom to work seasonally and tell a story through flowers.
I love creating immersive, atmospheric spaces that feel personal and connected to their surroundings. Working with like-minded people who value natural design and sustainability makes the process even more meaningful.
How do you hope people feel when they experience Mudd?
Above all, I want the experience of working with Mudd to feel relaxed, friendly and effortless.
From the first conversation to final installation, it should feel exciting, never overwhelming. My hope is always that clients feel completely understood and that the end result exceeds what they imagined, building lasting relationships along the way.
What’s next for Mudd?
This chapter still feels like the beginning.
Mudd is growing slowly and intentionally, and I’m looking forward to meeting more kind, creative people and being trusted to design something truly special for their celebrations, spaces and stories.
